Nationwide’s FlexStudent account back by popular demand – with £100 cashback, Just Eat vouchers, overdrafts up to £3k and voucher referrals

  • 12 months of Just Eat vouchers worth £120, and £100 cash payment, available on accounts opened from 1 July
  • Students can bag an extra £40 in vouchers for referring up to two friends (£20 a time)
  • Brings total incentives up to a maximum of £260 or £280 if you are the friend who was referred! *
  • FlexStudent also offers interest-free, fee-free overdrafts up to £3k and commission-free purchases & withdrawals abroad

Nationwide’s FlexStudent current account1 is again offering £100 cashback and £120 of Just Eat vouchers over 12 months in a deal that offers £220 of incentives to students in their first year of university. The account incentives launch on 1 July for 2025’s new student intake.

The account, which attracted more than a quarter of the student current account market last year – will also provide the opportunity to refer up to two friends - earning £20 per successful referral for themselves. This brings the total available incentive up to £260 or £280 if you are the friend who was referred*. (terms and conditions apply).

This comes in addition to an interest-free and fee-free arranged overdraft of up to £1,000 in the first year, £2,000 in the second and £3,000 by the third year - in addition to commission-free purchases and cash withdrawals abroad.

Students are being reminded that to receive the incentives, they must apply for a FlexStudent account from 1 July and deposit £500 by 12 December 2025. (see full eligibility criteria2 www.nationwide.co.uk/studentoffer).

FlexStudent breakdown for 2025:

  • Cashback: students will receive £100 into their FlexStudent account within 14 calendar days of crediting it by at least £500 by 12 December 2025 – e.g., the first instalment of their student loan (£500 doesn’t need to be a one-off transaction).
  • Just Eat: eligible account openings will receive a registration code and can access the £10 voucher code every month for the first 12 months. These can be used online. Access will be provided within 14 days of the student becoming eligible.
  • Arranged overdraft: access to an interest-free, fee-free, flexible overdraft throughout a student’s studies (subject to status), where they can set borrowing limits. Students can request up to £1,000 in the first year, up to £2,000 in their second year and a maximum of £3,000 in year three (accounts can be held beyond three years with the maximum £3,000 overdraft). They’ll need to pay in at least £500 each term, keep up with bill payments and stay within their arranged overdraft limit.
  • Extra vouchers for referral: Students can also bag an extra £40 of Just Eat vouchers for successfully referring up to two friends (£20 a time), while their friend also pockets £20.
  • Commission-free purchases and cash withdrawals abroad: FlexStudent account holders will not pay any fees for using their card abroad for making purchases or withdrawing cash, giving them peace of mind when travelling.
  • Access to the FlexGraduate current account3: Those with a FlexStudent account will have exclusive access to FlexGraduate – a post-university current account with an interest-free, fee-free arranged overdraft designed to help students find their feet after university, allowing them time to pay off their overdraft once their course has finished.

Tom Riley, Director of Retail Products at Nationwide Building Society, said: “Students loved this offer last year, in fact the account attracted more than a quarter of the student current account market. That’s why we’ve worked even harder this year to make FlexStudent even better! For many students, starting university marks the first time they’ve lived away from home and managing money and meals quickly becomes a top priority. We hope our cashback offer, Just Eat collaboration and referral scheme helps make their first year that little bit easier. Combined with the interest-free, fee-free arranged overdraft and commission-free usage abroad, we’re doing what we can to help make university life as simple and fun as possible.”
