Nationwide live Black Friday data – 12pm update

By 12pm today, Nationwide customers have made 3.59 million transactions - 20 per cent higher than a typical Friday.

The number of purchases is 11 per cent higher than at the same time on Black Friday 2023 and 17 per cent higher than 2022.

Criminals will know consumers are out in force looking for a bargain, so will look to try and take advantage. So far today we have seen an 18 per cent increase in transactions being alerted as potentially fraudulent when compared to a normal Friday, while the number of potential scams being reported to us is up 16 per cent.

Mark Nalder, Director of Payment Strategy at Nationwide Building Society, said: "We’ve seen a strong morning of sales so far this Black Friday with around 3.59 million transactions, but now we about to enter the lunchtime period we expect things to really ramp up. Over the last few years, the lunchtime period has been the busiest point in the day as customers hit the stores or head online to bag a bargain.”

Next live update will be at 2pm.
