Nationwide hosts event to help Stoke on Trent community tackle cost of living challenges

Nationwide Building Society, which has local branches in Hanley and Newcastle-under-Lyme, is hosting a special Money Matters event to offer people in the Stoke on Trent area expert advice on how to tackle cost of living challenges.

The event will be hosted by Nationwide who will be joined by local charities and organisations, including StepChange and IncomeMax. Money Matters is open to everyone, regardless of who they bank with, and will offer support and guidance as well as hints and tips to help with managing money.

There will be two sessions available to join at 12.30-3pm or 5-7pm. Both will feature talks on budget management, the wider economic outlook and mental health. A fraud awareness session is also being held to help people look after their money and keep an eye out for current scams.

Mandy Beech, Nationwide’s Director of Retail Services, said: “The cost of living crisis is putting unimaginable pressure on households across the UK. The Money Matters event will provide face to face support for the Stoke on Trent community from organisations who specialise in money management advice, and most importantly who can provide solutions. Now more than ever, we would encourage anyone who is struggling to either attend the event or speak to their financial services provider. We know for many this can be a daunting prospect, but organisations can help if people get in touch.”

The Nationwide Money Matters event will take place on Tuesday 6 December, at The Potteries Museum. It’s free to attend with lunch, tea and coffee provided. If you’re interested in attending the event you can register by completing this short registration form.

Nationwide cost-of-living support:

At this time, Nationwide Building Society is supporting members struggling with the rising cost of living. A freephone cost-of-living hotline (0800 030 40 66) for those experiencing money worries was launched on 1 August. The service is supported by dedicated, trained experts based across the Society’s main branches. It is available from 9am-4.30pm weekdays and 9am-12pm Saturdays. Nationwide is aiming to answer calls to the hotline within ten minutes. Outbound calls are also being made.

Since September, all frontline colleagues are now trained to provide additional cost-of-living help for members, whether in branch or on the telephone, and this month Nationwide’s cost-of-living experts started to offer face-to-face telephone and video appointments. Virtual and in-branch events will be held for members from the autumn, providing practical help with managing money and avoiding financial pitfalls.

Anyone in financial hardship should contact their bank or building society. If you are a Nationwide member see more at Cost of living | Nationwide.
