Nationwide Building Society announces the appointment of Debbie Klein as an independent Non-Executive Director of the Society.

Nationwide Building Society announces the appointment of Debbie Klein as an independent Non-Executive Director of the Society. Debbie is a leading practitioner in marketing and communications, as well as having significant experience with digital transformation and sustainability. She will join the Board with effect from 1 March 2021.

Ms Klein is currently Group Chief Marketing, Corporate Affairs and People Officer at Sky. Her remit covers consumer, corporate and employer brand, including overall brand development, corporate communications, public affairs, corporate social responsibility, and people leadership.

Prior to joining Sky, she was a founding partner of The Engine Group, an integrated marketing services business created in 2004. She was the Chief Executive of Engine UK between 2010-2016, and the CEO of The Engine Group Europe and Asia Pacific between 2016-2018.

She will bring additional diversity of thought and approach to the Board with her vast experience and understanding of marketing, communications, and digital transformation programmes. Her extensive knowledge and her proven track record in leading brand, marketing development and corporate social responsibility programmes will prove invaluable considering the direction of the Society’s strategy and challenges faced in the retail financial services sector. Additionally, her experience of sustainability and CSR matters will be invaluable as the Society builds out its future ESG agenda.”

Nationwide also confirms that after nine years on the Board, Rita Clifton, a non-executive director of the Board since July 2012 will retire from the Society at the AGM in July 2021. David Roberts, Society Chair, said: “On behalf of the Board and our members, I would like to thank Rita for the immense contribution she has made to the continued success of the Society over the past nine years. We wish her well in her future portfolio.”
