Live Black Friday spending data: 9am update

By 9am this morning, Nationwide members have made 1.37 million transactions – 17 per cent higher than a typical Friday.

The number of purchases is 7 per cent higher than on Black Friday 2021 and a third (33%) higher than on the same day in 2020 when the pandemic subdued spending.

Mark Nalder, Director of Payment Strategy at Nationwide Building Society said: “Early indications are that this Black Friday will be the busiest shopping day of the year. Despite cost of living pressures, transactions are already up 7 per cent on last year. The lure of a Black Friday bargain ahead of Christmas is clear to see as the number of purchases are currently up 17 per cent on an average Friday.”

Next live update will be at 12 noon.
