Live Black Friday Spending Data – 5pm

By 5pm today, Nationwide members had made 6.46 million transactions – 15 per cent higher than a typical Friday.

The number of purchases is 9 per cent higher than on Black Friday 2021 and 37 per cent up on 2020. The level of spending is also up 35 per cent on the pre-pandemic levels (2019).

Mark Nalder, Director of Payment Strategy at Nationwide Building Society said: “The early evening typically sees a post-work peak in Black Friday spending as people search for the best deals online while relaxing at home. We expect this year’s peak to be higher than usual as a large proportion of people across the country tune in to watch England’s World Cup match.”

The Society will provide a full summary of Black Friday data tomorrow morning (Saturday 26 November)
