Live Black Friday Spending Data – 2pm

By 2pm today, Nationwide members had made 4.52 million transactions – 15 per cent higher than a typical Friday.

Historically the lunchtime period is the peak time for spending and at 2pm the number of purchases is eight per cent higher than on Black Friday 2021 and 36 per cent up on 2020. The level of spending is also up 35 per cent on the pre-pandemic levels (2019).

Mark Nalder, Director of Payment Strategy at Nationwide Building Society said: “Spending continues to remain strong as shoppers search out bargains ahead of the festive period. Black Friday will provide a welcome boost for retailers as the number of transactions continue to exceed pre-pandemic levels. We expect spending to remain robust throughout the evening as people make the most of payday and celebrate the end of the working week.”
