Live Black Friday Spending Data – 12 noon

By 12pm today, Nationwide members had made 3.07 million transactions – 16 per cent higher than a typical Friday.

This number of purchases is 7 per cent higher than on Black Friday 2021. While the number of transactions are a third (33%) higher than on the same day in 2020 when the pandemic subdued spending, they are still up 36 per cent on 2019’s pre-pandemic levels.

Mark Nalder, Director of Payment Strategy at Nationwide Building Society said: “Spending throughout the morning has been in line with what we predicted - up seven per cent on last year and 16 per cent on what we see on a typical Friday. Historically this period has been the peak time for spending as people search for bargains either online on the high street during their lunch break.

“For the first time ever we also have a winter World Cup, which will continue to boost spending figures throughout the day – especially when England take on the USA later this evening.”
